An End To Shunning
by Sunspot inwell, in my case anyway.
for those of you that may recall my posts about my family and that after i left the wts, how i wrote long (and painful) letters to my nonjw children among others.
i had tried to explain why i had shunned them and how very sorry i was, and for all the mistakes i had made throughout their childhoods as a jw mother.

Wonderful experience! So happy for you. We know how you feel. After writing a lengthy letter to our two "still JW" daughters, we proceeded to "fade" for the last three years. Our daughters didn't shun us, as they had agreed that that wasn't the Christian thing to do, but things weren't the same. We didn't have a lot to talk about. When my husband would "slyly" try to make a point here or there, out oldest daughter finally said, "I know what Dad is trying to do, and we don't appreciate it at all". So from that time on, "mum" was the word. It was so hard, as you know. Early this year, we all went to see the movie, "National Treasure". Everyone enjoyed it, and the "kids" saw it again. Our granddaughter wanted to know about the "eye" on the dollar bill. She, our daughter and son-in-law did some research on the "all-seeing-eye" and the "pyramid", and ended up at a sight for Brother Russell, pyramidology, Free Masons and spiritism, of all things. That started the ball rolling. Our daughter called the next day, and ask a few questions stemming from the original letter we had written them several years ago, about Brother Russell. She started doing her own research, and hasn't stopped since. Our younger daughter is doing the same. It's wonderful to have our girls "back again". They hadn't realized what a wall there had been. They see what a "CULT" the WT really is. When you stand back, apart from the WT it is so obvious. Maybe some of you out there can encourage your loved ones to see the movie and do a little "research" also...who knows where it might lead???

Latest on Creative Days?
by Justin inin the book from paradise lost to paradise regained (1958) the society published a commentary on genesis, chapter 1 in which the creation was explained in terms of a scientific theory which was supposedly compatible with the bible.
for example, "when the earth was formed, it was a hot ball of gas, and no doubt looked much like the sun does today.
" (page 9) and, the earth was enveloped in a "blanket of darkness .

Alan Feuerbacher has a lot of research about "creation". He is an awesome researcher. I think if you go to "watchtower research" in your search engine, you will find plenty of information, as well as more current WT publication information. I think the WT book, "Life How Did It Get Here, by Evolution or Creation" is the newest publication on this subject.

OK for WTS to rent YMCA facilities - 1964 KM
by Bonnie_Clyde in1964 km - page 4: .
question box: what viewpoint should we take toward membership in such organizations as the ymca, if one's membership is solely for the use of recreational facilities?.
answer: the young men's christian association is in actuality a manifestation of interfaith.

Seems to me their "logic" should apply when it comes to the decision to join the UN, and become a "card carrying" NGO member, for WHATEVER reasons!!!

Interesting, as my husband is at this moment, compiling a letter to one of our sons who is shunning his older brother, who was DF'd for smoking, and shunning us, for continuing to associate with him. The 1954 article said many who had smoked, quit because it wasn't Christian, but in reality, probably because they were given "X" number of months to quit or be DF'd. On the same note, "coffee" is every bit as addictive, although granted, not as harmful to those around the coffee drinker. But we've known so many over the years, who couldn't get to the first door in service if they hadn't had their coffee "fix". Some even get physically ill for a lack of coffee, headaches etc??? Where's the sense of it all??? It must be in the CONTROL aspect, and making JW's different, at all costs.

a great crowd and rev 21
by IP_SEC ini?ve been researching the references to a great crowd at revelation 7 and 19. it seems to me that there is little doubt that the vision places them in heaven.
naos, enopion, and the reference to heaven in chapter 19 seem pretty conclusive as to their heavenly position to me.
my problem is that, when i read revelation 21:1-4 it seems to me that this is speaking about the same group as the 'a great crowd' at chapter 7 and 19. at 7:15 it says god will spread his tent over this group.

Just read your post, so thought some of my research could help. I hadn't really "read" the Bible in all of my 58 years with the WT, until the last two years. When I started reading it for what is says, instead of what the WT says it "says", I was very surprised. Here are some of the scriptures I found that had similar expressions as those of Rev 21:1-4, indicating to me these things had already started to be fulfilled. Keep in mind too, there is great controversy as to when the book of Revelation was written, before or after 70ce. The scriptures are from the NWT. 2 Cor 6:16 "we are a temple". The footnote says divine habitation or dwelling. By the way, my "8 translation" Bible, uses "tent", "temple", "dwell", "live", and "home", for the word "tent". 1 Cor 15:54-56 talks about deaths sting being "swallowed up forever". He was talking to those with a "heavenly hope". Also, the Law was being taken away by Jesus' sacrifice, ending death. 2 Pet 1:4 talks about becoming "sharers in divine nature". Luke 4:18-21 Jesus quoted Isaiah, saying he fulfulled that scripture. Lu 7:22 shows it was being done then, at that time. Col 1:13 says they had been "transferred" into "the kingdom of the Son of his love". 1 Pet 2:9,10 says they "were once not a people, but are now God's people". 2 Tim 1:10 says Jesus "has abolished death". The footnote says, literally, "having made ineffective". 2 Cor 5:17 says those in union with Christ are a "new creation; the old things passed away, look! new things have come into existence."
I'd encourage you to read the context also. Hope these scriptures help in adding more to the possible meaning to Rev 21. I think there are things we will never really know for sure, and we can't be dogmatic about anything that isn't spelled out in "black and white".

In the past I have seen newer releases, that actually have been taken from older publications. I have seen these newer releases, with new names, that have identical information with variations of chapter headings, etc. Can someone tell me again where some of these are??? I know I have some in my library, but can't remember which ones they are. Would appreciate any help out there. It does seem strange that the WT needs to "recycle" publications. With enough time-lapse, it would seem like a steady stream of "new" information!! Thanks in advance.

Jesus as the mediator for the 144,000 only
by marsal in.
does anyone know what wt issues claimed that jesus was the mediator only for the 144,000?.
i need to be able to prove it to someone who is certain that the wts never stated that.

I too, was shocked to hear this. One nite, about three years ago, after coming home from Thursday nite meeting, my husband ask if I knew the WT taught Jesus wasn't really my mediator? I told him I thought that was just "apostate" lies. He said he was reading it right from a Watchtower (on the net). I spent the next couple hours researching and couldn't believe what I found. Here are a couple more places that confirm the belief that Jesus is our mediator only through the 144,000. WT 3/1/1992, page 31, Questions from the Readers; WT 12/15/1989, page 30, Do You Remember; and the Aid to Bible Understanding, page 1130. As a side note, when I looked these up tonight, I noticed the WT 5/15/86 (which had some to say about the mediator), page 12-15, para 17, talked about the new "things revealed", that in 1923 Jesus' prophecy about the sheep and goats was properly understood, that the world was under judgement...this changed about 1995. I wonder how many really know that this TOO has changed! What is left??? Most JW's don't realize the WT teaches this! Also, the WT separates the position of mediator and the position of high priest, so we all have Jesus as our high priest, but only a few have him for mediator. Hopefully, more will see this question and have the desire to look further.

War Bonds WW2 Australia
by JW83 inthis information is taken from thesis by peter strawhan, 1984, re jws in australia in ww2.
rees was head of jws in australia, who were banned 1941-43.
jws contributed 10,000 to war bonds from cash accumulated during ban, reported to knorr july 1943. rees: ?of course the fact that we took out the bonds has not been publicized, but we have seen to it that the government officials such as security, army, manpower, etc, know of it.

I did look up your reference in my old 1983 Yearbook, pages 95-99. The information is dealing with some commercial activities during "the previous five years". It said these provided some full-timers with work during the "ban". They said, "the organization had actually gone too far by establishing commercial enterprises, and this had a disturbing effect on many brothers." There was a resolution at the assemblies that year "confessing their sins" before Jehovah and Jesus. No details were gives as to what these commercial enterprises were, and nothing said about any war bonds being purchased. It basically ended with the "aim was to work hard to counter the depressed spirit many brothers felt because of the events of the World War II years".

Daniel's Prophecy, 605 BCE or 624 BCE?
by Little Bo Peep inhello all, i've been reading your site for a couple of years now, and have found, for the most part, it to be very helpful.
i must say, at first i was very "scared" at what i might find, but contrary to what i grew up learning, there is a "wealth" of information outside of the watchtower organization.
i haven't attended meetings for about two years now, and like many i've read about, have spent many hours researching, telling myself "i'm not wrong for searching", and doing more research.

Found an interesting post within the "Bible Research & Study Articles" forum. For anyone who seems confused by the question, and many differing answers, the post, "586/587 the K.I.S.S. approach---no VAT4956, Ptolemy, Josephus needed," by Alleymom, posted today, does simplify things, for a seemingly good place to start.
